Research Interests

My research is primarily focusing on turbulent mixing in the coastal seas and deep ocean. I mainly work with in situ data to explore the questions regarding how multiscale motions influence the transport of sediment and other materails in the bottom boundary layer. I am also studying the link between the surface dynamic processes and the flow variability in the deep.  I hope to contribute in quantifying the role of multiscale motions play on the heat flux and material transport in the boundaries.

Currently, I work with a group studying the dynamic process of sediment transport in the South China Sea deep basin (PI: Dr. Zhifei Liu). The main target is to investigate how the tremendous fluvial sediments are transported by different processes in the South China Sea such as contour currents, mesoscale eddies, turbidity currents. Our methodology consists longterm in-situ observation including tens of sediment traps, long ranger/300 kHZ/600kHz ADCPs, RCMs, CTDs, ADVs, LISST-DEEP, and numerical modeling based on the coupling sediment modules.
